For this project, I worked on a one of two windows between two of One Off Hospitality's restaurants. "BigStar" and "Dove's". Both restaurants are heavily southern-based, with Bigstar focusing more on the "Taco, margarita" aspect, while Dove's is more of a southern-hospitality, diner-based food. We wanted to find a way to connect the two restaurant concepts while not making them too similar.
Going back to the origins of the BigStar restaurant vibe, we spoke with the creators of the restaurant to examine the origins of the BigStar logo and the restaurant's design, focusing on the "Honky Tonk" aspect and the Old West feel. In the brand guidelines, they leaned heavily on this album, "The Flying Burrito Bros". We wanted to try to pull as much feeling from the music as well as the album cover.
CONCEPT 1
For this first idea, we wanted to match an existing illustrative style that "Dove's" had established. I wanted to bring traditional Mexican folk art into the design, mixing in our highlighted margarita and tacos in a mural style. Starting with a sketch, I bring the elements into it, then continue coloring in Photoshop.
CONCEPT 2
I started with a sketch to find a way to bring the two restaurants together. Originally, I wanted to start them in a desert and incorporate elements from each restaurant. With this original design, I then broke each restaurant into different windows.
I took inspiration from vintage road signs and brought the restaurants' highlights into the design.
CONCEPT 3
For the third concept, we took a step back to examine the origins of the BigStar logo and the restaurant's design, focusing on the "Honky Tonk" aspect and the Old West feel. I wanted to focus on a "wanted" poster. Less illustrative, fewer colors than the previous concept.
